About Fado Antiques

Fadó Antiques is situated at the busy junction of Phibsborough Road & North Circular Road, in Phibsborough, Dublin, known locally as Doyle’s Corner. This much regarded shop is a welcome oasis from the hustle and bustle of this busy North City suburb. Although Fadó Antiques has been trading at this location for just 5 years, we have been in the business of selling antiques and collectables for 20 years.

Our roots begin back in the late 1980’s, at the old ‘Hill Market’, on Dublin’s Cumberland St, where in the early hours of a Saturday morning, casual traders and travellers alike would ply their wears on this street, most of the items on sale having been re-cycled from Dublin tip heads and house clearances. Other well known Dublin dealers and myself would comb our way through the clutter, picking out interesting and collectable bits and pieces to be sold at the fabulous and much mourned “Mother Redcaps Market”, at Christchurch, Dublin.

I must say reminiscing on these times, I think of the excitement of discovering these items and educating ourselves through reference books etc. During our 10 years of trading at this market, we supplied decorative items to our glorious ‘public houses’ in the City and abroad. We also sold or leased many props to the film industry, theatrical groups, advertising and RTE programming. Some of the movies I recall were My Left Foot, The Field, Angela’s Ashes & the epic Michael Collins, to name but a few. We moved on from there to complete a furniture restoration course which was most rewarding in teaching the basics of restoration, French polishing etc  which I have put into practice regularly over my years in the business.

We traded for a time on Camden Street, where I was to learn quite a lot about the market and trends of movement within that same market. From there we traded for 3 years on Dublin’s famous Francis Street, which has the largest amount of antique shops in the capital. This acted as a huge educational experience for us as we increased our knowledge of antique furniture and antiques in general.

After our stint on Francis Street, we spent 2 years working the antique fairs in hotels along the west coast of Ireland, before finally opening Fadó Antiques in our current homestead of Phibsborough, where trading doors opened in August 2004.

At Fadó we sell a large range of old crystal chandeliers, antique lanterns & various old hanging glass shades. We have a large selection of genuine antique furniture and miscellaneous antique items sourced both locally and at markets in the UK and continental Europe. Our stock is updated regularly to meet the demands of our many loyal and satisfied customers.

Fadó Antiques prides itself on the condition of our antiquities in store with all re-cycled antique furniture leaving in pristine condition with an enhancing coat of beeswax! Chandeliers are cleaned, re-wired and adjusted to hang at optimum height. Our accommodating nature lends our time to advise on all aspects of the antiques World. Our word is our bond and we offer genuine quality antiques at unbeatable prices.

Dublin’s ‘Best Kept Secret’, is yours to discover and explore.
